University of Baltimore City Scholars Program
As an anchor institution in Baltimore City, the University of Baltimore’s academic programs,
educational outcomes, and commitment to community engagement help meet the needs of city
government, residents, neighborhoods, businesses, non-profits, and more. UB students are
primarily Maryland residents who work in Baltimore and continue to live in the Baltimore region
upon graduation. Therefore, UB graduates have a significant favorable impact on the City’s
workforce and community.
The University of Baltimore in collaboration with the City of Baltimore Department of Human
Resources will provide active full-time employees an opportunity to receive a scholarship to
attend the University of Baltimore. The scholarship is open to all Baltimore City Employees who
are currently a regular full-time employee with no less than one year of continuous work
experience with the City of Baltimore, as well as spouses and eligible dependents of these
employees.. The scholarships provide working individuals with the opportunity to further their
graduate or undergraduate education and enables a more educated City workforce.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
• Applicants must have, at minimum, 12 months of full-time work experience as outlined
below:
o First preference: A 12+month full-time employee of Baltimore City Government
o Second preference: A qualifying spouse or qualifying dependent of a 12+ month
full-time employee of Baltimore City Government
• Applicants must meet the following academic requirements at a minimum:
o Undergraduate Applicants: Must have a minimum of 60 transferable credits
earned with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
o Graduate Applicants: Must have verification of graduation and degree conferred
with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher
▪ Law and Doctorate Degrees are excluded from this program
APPLICATION PROCESS
Upon meeting eligible criteria, applicants should complete the following steps:
• Complete University of Baltimore online application, be admitted to UB and enrolled in
good standing in a degree-granting graduate or undergraduate program.
• Provide an official transcript from each institution attended and all supplemental
materials required.
• Complete the residency form from the University of Baltimore.
• Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
