MAT ADMISSION CHECKLIST
Apply online
to the College of Graduate Studies. There is a $50 application fee. After you submit your
application, you can check the status of your application here.
Please consult the following checklist during the application process to ensure you meet each
requirement and submit all required materials. These requirements apply to all MAT programs unless
otherwise noted.
Possess a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution. You must submit transcripts from
the institution that awarded your bachelor’s degree and anywhere you completed graduate-level
coursework. With your application, you can submit unofficial or official transcripts. If you gain
admission and choose to enroll, you must submit official transcripts at that time if they were not
previously submitted. Applicants should not need to submit Georgia Southern University (or
Armstrong State University) transcripts, although it may expedite the processing of your application if
you attach unofficial documents.
Applicants to the Special Education, Spanish Education, Middle Grades Education, and Secondary
Education Programs may need to submit additional transcripts to show prerequisite content.
International transcripts must be accompanied by an evaluation from a NACES
-accredited evaluation
service. This must include a course by course evaluation and a GPA.
Possess a cumulative 2.50 (4.0 scale) overall grade point average or higher on all undergraduate and
graduate coursework combined. This overall GPA includes every course you have ever attempted.
For applicants to all MAT programs except Elementary Education and Health and Physical Education:
Your transcripts will be reviewed for required content coursework as part of a transcript evaluation.
Your transcripts will be evaluated following the submission of your application and all required
transcripts. You must have an adjusted GPA of 2.75 or higher on content courses in the selected area
of certification. You can review the criteria by which your transcripts will be evaluated for each
concentration here: https://coe.georgiasouthern.edu/gasc/transcript-evaluation/
.
Create a MyPSC account and an ETS GACE account. These are required to take GACE Assessments and
obtain pre-service certification.
Complete the state-required Georgia Educator Ethics Assessment (test code 360).
For Middle Grades, Secondary, and Spanish Education applicants only: Submit a passing score on the
GACE Content Assessment
in the area for which one is seeking certification. There are two parts to
the content assessments in Spanish and Secondary concentrations. If there is any question about
which assessment to take, please contact your MAT Admissions Contact, Stacy Davis, at
stacydavis@georgiasouthern.edu.
Qualify for a Georgia Pre-Service Certificate or Provisional/Waiver Certificate. You will acknowledge
this item in your online application, but you do not need to do anything further until after you gain
admission. If you are a teacher of record with a Provisional or Waiver Certificate, you will complete
this process with your school district. If you are not a teacher of record, you will apply for the Pre-
Service Certificate after you gain admission. Pre-Service Certificate requirements can be found here:
https://www.gapsc.com/Certification/TieredCertification/preService.aspx
.
Submit a personal statement of purpose that identifies your reasons for pursuing graduate study and
how admission into the program relates to your professional aspirations.

online application that you will initial. You do not need to purchase insurance to apply, and are not
bound by the provider you choose in the application.
For MAT Spanish applicants only: Applicants must pass an Oral Proficiency Interview and a Writing

Foreign Languages).
