“On the Fly” Fairy Tale Storytelling Game
To Prep:
*Copy and cut out pages 7-10 onto cardstock. Laminate for durability.
*Place all the categories (on this page) on a word space and talk about each one briefly. Then, place all your
good character cards facedown in a pile beside “good characters”, all the bad character cards facedown in a
pile beside “bad characters”, etc. until all your cards are in their own piles facedown.
To Play:
*Players take turns picking a card from each pile and creating their own fairy tale “on the fly”. For example, a
player picked little
boy, thief, forest,
and
rescue,
that player would make up an oral story including all these
elements, keeping in line with a fairy tale plot (problem and solution-based).
Sorting Game:
As a variation, use the categories as head words. Mix up all the cards from pgs. 7-10 in a large pile. Draw one
and sort it under the correct category.
